Suggestions for Individual Practice for Spiritual Connection

Individual in Relationship with Self:
Practice: Meditation

Example: Relax the body and become aware of thoughts, feelings and perceptions. Observe the inner experience and let go to focus on the breath. Without effort and with pure intention, allow the mind to become still. Listen for the voice of the Inner Knower. It may not come immediately.

Individual in Relationship with Other:
Practice: Difficult Relationships

Example: Know that the Universe is based upon relationships, and that all relationships are important. Seek lessons and understanding within the difficult relationship with other. What is the quality of relationship? Do you see the other person as an Object for your egocentric desires? Or as an Other, separate and unrelated to you? Or as One, as in the mirror, so that a better reflection of Self can be seen. Seek what is positive in the relationship. Take personal responsibility through choice and intention to provide a positive outcome to the relationship. Let go of any expectation for the other to change or learn. Use the relationship as a mirror to look at Self and what needs to be learned and experienced.

Individual in Relationship with Community:
Practice: Volunteer

Example: Extend yourself to do more than you think you can or may want to do in the outer community. Examine individual vision and values and seek an organization in which to express and further more of what you would like to see in the world. Use the relationships within the community to build a network to be able to do and express more than one person could do alone. Seek to build collaborative relationships. See everyone as equal and important to the cause. Let go of results and work with the process to achieve desired outcomes. Be appreciative of self and others in the time and effort invested. Make sure that what is done is not for ego gratification. Do not seek rewards or recognition for accomplishments. Find and appreciate the inner satisfaction for the effort made for the sake of the cause and not for the sake of the self.
